Day 2 was really day 1 of the conference and boy oh boy was I in for a treat! Upon checking in I received the best swag bag I have ever laid eyes on! Gifts for the Good Life branded everything from our name tags and bags to a sarong, on the go/on the mend emergency pack, candle, hand painted picture from Rick Ink and more; the bags were never ending! At our first session we received a cute little bag with Engage!11 pin, notebook for day 1 and a name card for our place setting. Shomari Scott welcomed us to the gorgeous Cayman Islands (pronounced Cay-Man by the locals) and Engage!11 kicked off!
Motivational speaker Simon T. Bailey was up first and spoke about your individual, brilliant imprint and challenged us to see something different. We branded ourselves and were able to share it with fellow Engage attendees.
Photographer Donna von Bruening got up and spoke about personal experiences in the wedding/event industry. Her story was truly touching and reminded everyone to love what you do, not let it be what you do.
Darcy Miller from Martha Stewart Weddings shared Martha’s 10 rules for starting a successful business (talk about perfect timing). Everything from creating your A team, to accessing risk and chance. We were even able to see some details from Dylan Lauren’s bridal shower – so cute!
Randy Fenoli, best know from Say Yes to the Dress was our last speaker of the day. He reminded everyone that they were beautiful and how it’s not about the “sell” it’s about the experience. He spoke about the importance of educating, elevating and empowering each bride during her unique, once in a lifetime experience. Randy concluded with giving each attendee a copy of his new book “It’s all about the Dress.” Thank you, Randy!
The day concluded with the welcome party on the beach! It was a great evening of networking and meeting so many fun industry professionals! I even met Emily Ayer, Art Director for the gorgeous Southern Weddings and we found out we are both getting married September 15, 2012! Great minds must think alike! All in all day 1 of Engage!11 – Cayman Islands was better than I could have ever imagined! Thank you to all of the creative minds, creative team and speakers from day 1 – you are all brilliant!
