Win Wedding Photos Wednesday

I usually don’t do this kind of thing, but this time I couldn’t resist. My friend, Aaron, is currently serving our country over in Afghanistan and has a chance to win wedding photos when he returns from being on duty. All you have to do is visit the Photographic Memories Facebook page HERE, like their page then click on Aaron and Amanda’s picture, HERE, and like it. That’s it. Two clicks and you’ve given the gift of wedding photos to one of our very own who is giving his time to serve out country. So in the spirt of the holidays please take a few seconds to slow down and vote for Aaron and Amanda. Thank you!

Candy Canes & Christmas

Christmas is right around  the corner and I am not even close to finished shopping! Instead of stressing out I am thinking of everything sweet about Christmas!  Candy canes, chocolate, ornaments and pretty packages wrapped with bows, what else could be better? Sing a few carols with friends and kiss your sweetie under some mistletoe… or just because. What are you favorite things about this time of year? I would love for you to share!

Piled Packages

Yes, this is me today… well, this week. I absolutely love the holidays, my job and everything that has a bow, but right now my desk needs tending to and I need some elves. My desk is piled high with papers and files in preparation for my last event of 2011 and events to begin 2012. I have had zero time to shop for Christmas except for the two gifts I have purchased off line, one that was a complete fail (sorry to my fiance). So, while I am hiding behind fabulous events all wrapped with pretty, unique bows can I find an elf to do my christmas shopping for me? I promise I will be back as soon as I can. If there isn’t a blog post tomorrow you will NOT want to miss Monday! I promise to post something good! Something so good it’s better than smores in the fireplace or extra sprinkles on your favorite cupcake (yes, it really is that good)! Happy Holidays!

Meet Me Monday: The Proposal

I told you last week that I would share my proposal story with you, so here we go!

It was Friday, October 28 and I was preparing for a super fun client halloween party. Blair was headed to Pennsylvania for business and was going to stop though Tulsa about 11:00 to have lunch with me and the girls from the office. Needless to say I got a phone call about 9:15 to ask if I didn’t mind picking him up, his morning meeting got canceled and he got on an earlier flight. He told me a friend of ours, that we went to college with, was on the flight to come into town for the homecoming game. He said our friend got a rental car, so Blair rode with him to TU so he would be closer to my office. (We met in college, you can read that here.) Needless to say I was a little irritated that he came in to town early and didn’t give me a heads up to rearrange my plans to get him. He told me not to rush, but just to let him know when I was close to campus (one reason I love this man; he is patient with my work schedule). As I got close to campus he told me that he ran into some Thetas, and since he had his bags they invited him in to the house so I needed to go there to get him. I told him I was almost there and asked if he could come out and get in my car, but he persuaded me to come me for a minute. (If I hadn’t been in a hurry and wasn’t thinking about the girls in the house that would want to say hi and chat I may have figured out something was fishy… but I didn’t.) I parked my car in front of the house and hurried to the door. As I knocked on the door it opened, which was odd… low and behold there was Blair – standing alone. I think I may have given him the irritated “get your bags, let’s go” look while saying hiiiii…, but he just smiled and gave he a big hug. He told me that he loved me and he had missed me, then reminded me we were standing in the first place we ever met nearly 5 years earlier. He also said he knew then there was something about me. Before I could get my bearings the man of my dreams was on his knee asking me if I would marry him! I think I may have said “are you serious?!” He held out the ring box, wide open with a perfect ring, and said “Christina.” Stunned and shocked that he actually pulled off a surprise without me catching on (I despise surprises and am sometimes nosey to avoid them) I said, “YES!” and he put my new shiny ring on my finger! We were engaged, I had a fiance and so many questions; does my mom know you’re here, do you really have a business meeting in Pennsylvania.. oh my gosh!

Needless to say there was no early meeting that was canceled and no meeting out of town, there was no friend of ours on the plane (he caught a taxi) and he went up the the Theta house and knocked on the door by himself. Since he has the best luck my Great Grand Little, Lauren, opened the door and because she knew me didn’t question him when he said “Can I come inside to proposed to my girlfriend, she’s on her way here.” He knew if he had a big speech I would have figured it out, and he knew to catch me off guard while I was thinking about putting on the perfect event for work. He had known he was going to propose on October 25 for an entire year! October 25, 2010 was the first time we talked about spending forever together, this guy remembers it all! He asked my mom for permission two weeks before and she didn’t say a word! He thought about everything! He even stalked my PinterestGirls Best Friends” board for the perfect ring and Bailey Banks & Biddle helped him put the perfect setting and stone together!

Our weekend was full of fun celebrations with the girls in the Zinke office, my family, our friends and the homecoming football game at our alma mater! Yes, he even went with me to set up, and clean up, my fun client Halloween party! I am so excited to marry the most amazing man and my soul mate on September 15, 2012. God is so good and knows what He is doing every step of the way!  I can’t wait to share our wedding journey with you all; next week I go dress shopping!

Twinkle Lights and Christmas Green

I don’t know about you but I love that people are getting away from always pairing the stereotypical Christmas colors of red and green together. Don’t get me wrong I love red and green, but I love that the two colors can stand alone. If I were to pick one I would definitely go with green. I love the soft shades to dark evergreen, and you can find green everywhere. I absolutely love this print, how fabulous would wrapping paper be made from this! These bangles would be the perfect stocking stuffer for any fashionista and I wish I knew where this adorable little green dress came from! Don’t forget the twinkle lights! From young to old there is just something magical about twinkle lights. Whether it be how they shimmer in the snow, or complete a Christmas tree they are the perfect touch to add to your Christmas green.

Please forgive me as I lost most of my credits for this fabulous inspiration board.

A Snowman Birthday Party

This morning on Facebook I asked, “Would you rather be a snowman or gingerbread man?” and it seems snowman was the favorite. I started out thinking of a sophisticated snowman party with fun evening gowns and pretty china, but then I saw this adorable tutu! Let’s face it nothing is better than a tutu, so I switched gears to a kiddo friendly birthday party! Change out your traditional holiday wreath to a fun snowman for your front door and hang some adorable snowman paper garland. For centerpieces turn ornaments into snowman and fill a glass jar. Kids love yummy goodies, theme them for the party and your set! Who doesn’t love cake; these cakeballs are the perfect bit size portion. Set up a hot chocolate station with “snowman arms,” “coal eyes,” “carrot noses,” and peppermint buttons” for an extra fun touch. For the birthday girl decorate her chair with a snowman slip cover and dress her in this precious tutu. Since I don’t have any kids does anyone have a kid I can borrow to throw them a snowman party?

Happy Holidays!

A Gold Glitter Holiday Party

Yes, I am finally embracing the holidays (good thing because I have 2 1/2 weeks to shop for Christmas) and I had to start with glitter! Since I now have a fiance :) we have a few holiday parties to go to and of course that means new outfits. I know I should be shopping for everyone else, but let’s face it what girl can resist a fabulous new dress. For my first holiday look I’m beginning with this sequin-embellished dress from The Outnet and pairing it with this Betsy Johnson bow clutch from Bloomingdale’s and these adorable bow earrings. If you are playing host for the evening don’t forget to decorate the outside of your venue. I’m a big fan of white lights, because a little go a long way, and I love this row of trees outside a brick building. If you’re on a budget, or you spent your budget on your outfit, this Etsy Garland is also very DIY friendly. Click on over to Etsy to order yours, or you can find some sparkle paper, cut some circles, squares, triangles or whatever shape you love and glue them to each side of a piece of string. Wah-Lah! I’m a huge fan of edible gold, yes there is such a thing click here, so I would coat my entire cake with it! For favors send guests home with cute little gold reindeer! Happy Holidays!

Meet Me Monday: Christina & Her Fiance Blair

For two and a half years I have been faithfully blogging on Zinke Design, and while I am so thankful for the experience I am so happy to have a new blog and company! I figured half of you may not really know who I am, or what I do, so I thought I would share. Will that be ok?

So this is me… My name is Christina Leigh Clayton and I own Christina Leigh Events. I love the sun and the soft colors of the spring. I’m not a fan of pop, I only drink water… and soy chai lattes. I love peonies, ranunculus, parrot tulips and soft texture flowers.  I love my family. I think snow looks best on a postcard, or looking at it out my window from the fireplace. I love Jesus. I have a degree in Communications from The University of Tulsa, I was a cheerleader in college. I want a mini goldendoodle and a great dane. I started buying wedding magazines with my allowance in fifth grade. I am OCD and color code everything. I am a Kappa Alpha Theta. I would be lost without my calendar. I love all of my brides… and their moms… and their soon to be moms. I’m a designer, planner and coordinator. I’ll be your best friend, help you pick out a dress, walk you through one of the best times of your life. I’ll think like a 13 year old to throw the best Bat/Bar Mitzvah you’ve ever been to. I love holiday parties and representing your brand. I am an event planner, I love what I do, and I would love to help plan, design and produce your next event!

If you’re getting to know me I thought I would introduce you to my soon to be Mr. also; meet Blair! I have walked so many brides though the wedding process and it has been so much fun! A little over a month ago I became a bride myself, and I am so excited to share my journey with you all. I’ll begin with how we re-met! It was April 10, 2010, I was at contestants day for Miss Oklahoma and got a phone call from a friend that a group was going to dinner and I should come. She also told me that Blair was in town. — Rewind four years. I remembered Blair from college; he played football and I cheered. The first time I ever met him was in the Kappa Alpha Theta house at TU. He was doing a class project with my Big, Sarah, and she briefly introduced us. — Of course I remembered the 6’6″ tall, sweet southern gentleman from Texas. I hadn’t been to dinner with a group of friends in awhile so I went. Being the sweet man Blair is, he offered me his chair so that I didn’t have to sit on the end. We ended up chatting for awhile and then we all headed to stop number two. We spoke there for awhile and then I called an early night and headed home. A couple of days later I sent Blair a Facebook message to say it was great to see him and I hoped he had a great trip back home. The message was the beginning of a never ending chain of messages. Needless to say, I’m glad I sent that message. :) Next week I’ll be back to share our proposal story.
